I'm going to KU in the fall and i'm really really REALLY paranoid about the freshman 15. Does anyone have any advice on what to drink/what types of drinks to avoid? And don't say "don't drink" because that wouldn't be any fun now would it? I'm probably going to avoid beer, since the calories add up fast.. Thanks!

  1. It isn't the drinking you have to worry about.

Most dining halls have are like an all-you-can-eat buffet. Keep your portions reasonable and don't eat everything in sight just because you can. Try to pick healthy foods every once in a while, too. I know it's hard to eat a salad when the burgers are there, but if you want to keep your weight down, that's what you've got to do.

When drinking late at night, don't go out for pizza or calzones or wings. I mean sure, go for it once in a while, but there are more calories there than you'll find in all the beer you can drink in a night.

If you go with liquor, be careful what you mix it with. Soda has more calories and sugar than beer, so if you're going with rum and Coke or chasing vodka with Sprite, you're taking in major calories. Do straight shots or mix/chase with diet soda, or natural juices.

I don't know if you go to the gym or run now, but if you don't, you should start. Most gyms have a gym you can use for free. It'll help offset any calorie intake of yours from late night snacks, drinking, or other food choices.

  2. dont go to college haha

  3. vodka with diet soda/tonic water (add lime for extra flavor), bacardi and diet coke is known for being low in carbs/ sugar and most light beers are low in calories. For instance, Miller Light has 90 calories. As long as you mantain proper diet/ exercise you can still enjoy drinking without salvaging your figure. Hope this helps!

  4. Just drink lite beer.

  5. stick to mixed drinks...they dont add on the calories..they taste good and if you have enough of em..youll be flying =]

  6. Coke and Jack, with more coke then Jack

  7. What I've witnessed as far as the "freshman 15" was from people not eating right as soon as they got away from their parents' cooking.  Either cook for yourself or make healthy choices.

Also, don't drink booze every night, unless it's only 1-2 drinks.  Stay away from rum, whiskey, and bourbon.  Gin and vodka don't contain the sugars the others do.  Also, try to drink them with juices and soda water instead of Coke or 7-Up.  You can make some great cocktails if you stick to that rule.  (Think vodka-cranberry with a twist of lime and a splash or two of soda water for fizz.  Yummy!)

Enjoy your first year of college, be safe, and promise yourself you'll never be spotted on Girls Gone Wild.  ;)

  8. Vodka & Tonic.

And anyway, it's not just the alcohol that accounts for freshman 15.  Normally, universities have in school fast food and garbage, so I would stick to home cooked meals.

  9. here's a tip, don't be so paranoid about gaining weight. if you know how to eat right and make good decisions then you need not worry. sorry if that isn't the answer you're looking for.

  10. Don't eat Ramen noodles..they're really fattening and cut back on pizza.

  11. just make sure that whatever you drink couldn't have been spiked or poisoned or something lol

  12. Don't mix alcohol with soda. Soda alone is bad for your weight so why drink it with alcohol? Stick to lighter colored liquors and drink light beer.

The freshman 15 doesn't come just from drinking, its also from your diet. Stay away from fast food and mac n cheese and try and eat healthy. That should keep the freshman 15 away. Good luck

  13. Try exercising while at college. Many schools have gyms where you can workout for free by just showing your student ID.

Look at the source below about drinks. It will help you out!

    good look in school =]

  14. First off why are you so paranoid about it? who cares haha. if you really wanna stay thin and healthy you should make sure you are eating well and working out.

  15. Vodka and soda water with a twist of lime or lemon, low calories, no carbs.  Avoid things mixed with fruit juice or tonics.  Light beer isn't bad.

But it's not the alcohol that's gonna get you, it's the high calorie cafeteria food, late night pizza and snacks.

  16. look. i know you want to drink but i'm gonna have to say DON'T DRINK. it's not gonna be fun 2 years from now to be an alcoholic, THAT WOULDN'T BE ANY FUN NOW WOULD IT?
