I have the BSoD and it's so bad I can't run safe mode or anything. I am going to install Ubuntu and want to back up my files but I don't think I can because I can't get into Windows.

Is there anyway to do this?

...because I have pictures, songs, and millions of other stuff I'd like to save.

Thanks!

  1. you can boot in ubuntu and backup your files

  2. Best is if you can boot from a Windows CD/DVD and recover your Windows installation to the level that you can boot and access it again.

If you are not concerned about the Windows installation itself, you can even reinstall Windows in the same folder. Most BSoD problems are related to config and/or drivers, so installing over the previous installation should help.

Alternately, install another copy of Windows in another folder. That will result in a dual boot, but you can access the original files from the second instance.
