  1. You're going to be competing with people who are on a much higher-quality diet. So you will just have to be three times as good as they are to break even.

  2. im a vegan athlete too(long distance runner).

things to bring would be-nuts,granola bar, raisins,  craisins, apple, banana, sunflower seeds,

the best thing to keep your energy up is to make sure you eat a variety of fruits and veggies everyday, and try to get all your calories in.

  3. nuts(peanuts,soynuts,almonds,seeds)

  4. If you eat lots of food but don't include junk, there should be no problems. You've heard of Carl Lewis right? He won numerous Olympic Gold medals on a vegan diet.

Here are some other vegan people that have attained a visually obvious high level of fitness.

Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentils, nuts and seeds can offer more than enough protein and with fruits and veggies, you've got all of your bases covered.

I'd recommend just adding a daily source of B12, especially if you're athletic.

  5. Go grab a copy of The Vegetarian Sports Nutrition Guide by Lisa Dorfmann. It's got all kinds of great advice for vegetarian and vegan athletes. It has profiles of (and recipes from) tons of vegetarian and vegan athletes of all kinds.

  6. Vegan Granola:

    1 cylander Old fashioned Oatmeal

    1 TBS Salt

    1 stick margarine

    1 box Grape Nuts

    1 jar Wheat Germ

    1 bag shredded Coconut

    1 box raisins

1-2 cups Maple syrup (I normally use honey)

    1/2 tsp cinnamon(optional)

Toast the Oatmeal to golden brown in the oven with the margarine stirring every few minute to prevent corners from burning.

Put into a big bowl and add in the other ingredients.  You can also add chopped dates, crazins, asst nuts etc.  Put into a airtight container and it will keep for a month.

    makes about 5 pounds.

  7. If you're used to a plant diet, you won't be starving.

Don't think of a plant diet as lacking - it isn't.  So all you need to do is get enough calories....and healthy food.

Carl Lewis became a vegan in 1990, and went on to the 92 and 96 Olympics.  He did just as well.

  8. No advice, but I thought you'd enjoy this. :]
