Kids need a parent who is a good role model or example and if you are a kind considerate and loving parent - he will hopefully model his life on yours and that live his life as you would hope  he would

I agree, you dont need to be his friend. But if you want to get along with him better, jsut open up your mind and dont be too harsh.

When i talk to my parents, my main problem is that im afriad of judgement. I'm afriad that if admit i did something wrong ( no matter how minor) that they will be disappointed. Let your son know that he can talk to you whenever, and that youll still love him no matter what.

Tell him at random times that you love him.

Tell him when you are proud of him, so that HE KNOWS.

Invite him to hang out once in a while. Maybe ask him to go on a bike ride with you, to the gym, for a walk, to a game, or even to the grocery store. I bet, if your patient with him, things will be amazing with you two.
