Question:

How can I be both an Electrician and a Carpenter in my career?

Electricity has always interested me but I've always loved working with my hands and putting stuff together and building little things. I want to learn both trades but I don't know how I can do it since most apprenticeships are only for a specific trade. Any advice?

  1. Join the military, you can get certified for all.  Good luck..

  2. You could go for one trade and while working in that area (maybe just part time) go to school for the other.  I'm kind of in your position.  My trade is massage therapy but I would like to dwelve (sp?) into it a little more and really help people in physical need, so I'm planning to go to school for physical therapy assisting (trade number two) in a few months.  I would like to do both as a career but predominately physical therapy assisting and just massage therapy on the side (or even just something to fall back on).

    I think having two different trades underneath your belt will benefit you in the long run.  You'll always have one or the other to fall back on in case you wish to quit or take a break just for a change of pace.  But my advice to you is to just take it one at a time.  You don't have to learn it all at once, you know?  And who knows, maybe being of both trades will make you an asset to a future employer.  At least, that's what I anticipate for me. :-}
