How can I be granted asylum in Croatia or have my citizenship in the US revoked?

I'm a natural-born citizen of the United States who has a girlfriend in Croatia and, thanks to a few dumb decisions on my part, I have a criminal record and 5 years on probation. This prevents me from leaving the country. Is there any way I could either be granted asylum in Croatia or else have my citizenship revoked in some way, like denaturalization?

  1. You can't apply for asylum in Croatia while you're in the US and what would be the basis for your application, your criminal record?  Even if you could renounce your citizenship in the US, Croatia wouldn't let you be deported there.   I think it would be easier to bring your girlfriend here.

  2. You would have to sneak out of the country and sneak into Croatia get married there and acquire a skill that is unique and valuable that only you can perform and will benefit Croatian society.
