  1. Short and to the Point

  2. Be concise. Don't repeat your point in different words, ( I hate that). Stick to the point, if you must address other items to make your point, don' elaborate and go off in all directions

  3. Once you have all the back ground information on the subject break it all down to its simplest term. Use metaphors that deliver the effect you want to the point you are trying to make.

  4. If you want to be clear imagine that you are talking to a ten year old and explain your points that way. Look up all the arguments in your favor. Know their sources. See how others have expresses them

  5. read and write more as you run complete thoughts through your mind you get better

  6. Get a book of quotes and read it with an eye on remembering who said it, and under what circumstances. Listen to the language of the political pundits who explain the actions of politicians, not the message.  Write everyday on Y Answers about as many subjects as you are knowledgeable. Practice makes perfect.  Read lyrics to music, get recordings of great orators, listen to their choice for words, then the message.  Prepare your mindset to debate the issue, have a routine prior to the contest and relax...stay loose.  Finally, look at connective phrases that will lend illustrative power to your thoughts.  For instance, "the framers of our Constitution,"  the technological platform for LCD, HDTV and DLP are more than capable of marvelous results, but which one is most reliable?" " I am convinced...." I have to respectfully disagree...." Perhaps considering the alternative, their is a power in this way..."

And so, I want to leave you with the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson "If a man can build a better mouse trap even if it is in the middle of the woods, the world will make a beaten path to his door."
