How can I be patient and not focus on dating so much? I am getting to know someone who is healing from a divorce but he is genuinely interested in me, he says. He made it clear he wants to start a relationship with me, he just needs to move slow. He just got divorced though so he wants to work on his baggage for a little while longer before we get very involved. I really respect this man a lot. I thoroughly enjoy his company. I want to give him time to heal and am willing to take it slow. It is so hard to wait though. How can I be patient and not focus on wanting our relationship to move past a friendship/liking each other zone?

  1. Get a new hobby or try to stay busy any way you can.  Stop thinking about it so much and concentrate on other things you need to be doing or could be doing more of.

  2. Well you are not committed so therefore start going out with others.  The more he thinks that you have a life the more interesting you become.  It is a good thing he is wanting to take things slow instead of rushing into something and not learning from his mistakes.  Just have fun.

  3. I know it's difficult when your heart & maybe even your hormones say "go, go, go" but you know you should go slow!!  It's a mental challenge...you basically just have to psyche yourself out a little.  Look, it's obvious you like this guy so if you truly care for him, then you'll WANT him to be his healthiest self before jumping into a r'ship with you.  Afterall, do you REALLY want to contend with all his extra baggage at the beginning of your r'ship?  Another thing is that going too fast can mean he's not 100% in the r'ship.   He would probably hold part of himself back and you don't want that.  So, give him time and just relax.  Just enjoy being with him and having fun!  don't look at it as this big, serious thing!
