Okay so I'm a good outside shooter and mid range shooter but thats my only threat to score. So today I went to the park and played this really ripped out black guy shooting by himself. and I played him one on one and I was lucky to score 3 points on him from a 3 but thats it. Anyways I jabbed and pulled back a few times for a 3 and bricked because he was in my face and the I took him to the basket and used my left hand and got my *** stuffed. Oh and on defense he drove in on me and I fell on my *** because I coudn't guard him. I'm like this in a game a real game because i'm too scared to drive because i'm scared the coach will yell at me for ball hauging or getting my *** stuffed. Can you please give me some drills i can work on offensivly and defensivly to become a better player thanks

  1. I always heard that when your blocking no matter how tall you opponent is as long as you always have your hands up you are trying. Ok see don't be scared because weather you do something good or bad your coach is always going to say something. If you fall keep practicing.

About your dribbling problem, before i started i use fall on my a** to. Well sometimes i still do. BUT... I found a trick. When a person is blocking you there watching your ball control. If you dribble a lot through your legs instead of just going left to right your oppenent will get confused.

  2. all you have to do is practice

my friend plays basketball and what she does is play one on one with someone and at the end of the game she asks the person she played with what she can improve on.

so playing one on one is a great way to get better

also try 3 on 3..my friend does that for challenge

also my friend practices every shot thats possible to do

she does shots from the 3point range and she won't stop till she gets it

  3. Some are borne you need practice

  4. Have you considered negroplasty?

  5. Conduct as many flexibility exercises as possible. Basketball is a game of fluid and intricate movements. In order to execute those movements correctly a basketball player must be as flexible as possible.

Understand body angles and positioning. Basketball is much more than who can jump the highest or run the fastest. It is a sport based on besting the other players on the court by whatever means necessary within the rules. If a player understands how to gain proper body position for a shot, on defense or a rebound, they can best a more physically talented player.

Practice the fundamentals of the sport as often as time allows. It sounds cliché but practice in this case does make perfect. A basketball player should concentrate on the fundamentals first. Items such as proper footwork on defense, effective rebounding techniques and the correct shooting mechanics are the basis on which a good basketball player builds their game.

Realize where the other players are on the court at all times. Many times a player will concentrate only on their responsibilities and ignore what the other players on the court are doing. A player that is aware of the entire court becomes a better player. Basketball is an intricate combination of a team and individual sport. The good players learn to balance both when playing the sport.

Work on improving your overall basketball skills with both hands. Often a player will only use her dominant hand to dribble and score the basketball. This essentially reduces her arsenal by half if she doesn't use both hands efficiently in basketball.

    Good Luck

  6. dude in my opinion 1 on 1 is just for fun and doesnt determaine who is better. So don't worry about that, but you being scared and getting the ball stolen in games is a big issue if you want to make the team. You just gota be a little bit more confident in yourself, and PRACTICE!! Don't think that a few tips on yahoo answers will make you improve overnight, you gota put time and effort into it.

    DEFENCE

-play the offence player TIGHT, do not give him space. This may seem hard, and coaches teach you to play your man loose if hes out on the perimeter, but I say PLAY HIM TIGHT. I actually learned this from a great player at my gym. IT WORKS. Stay low, watch his stomach, and just play up on him. force him to go left and right and pull up for a jumpshot. If you play hard defence, the offence will get tired. That reminds me, you gota get into good shape to play this kind of defence. Work on your footwork, and condition yourself through sprints. Remember play tight defence, RIGHT UP on your man, and force him left to right. Just hope your teammates call screens.

    OFFENCE.

For offence, be fearless. If you lack self confidence, you'll do horrible, hands down. Just tell yourself "I'm going to do my best, and I don't care what people think, I'm going to have fun." Some moves you should work on is the spin move, and power hop. These are great for creating space and penetrating. Watch some NBA games to gain knowledge of the game, like where you position yourself, how to get open, etc.

Theres SOOO many things that you can do to improve your offensive and defensive game. If you have any more questions, I've got the answers.

  7. You sound like you need some serious practice and really know the game and also team work,

  8. practice everyday

  9. That's hilarious...lol

Sorry I coudn't help but lol at your descriptions.

You gonna need to practice harder. Work out to get stronger too. Playing against a bigger and stronger player you gonna have to outsmart him. You can't beat him off the dribble because as you described you got stuffed...lol. So, you gonna need to do pump fakes, change of speed, change of direction and stay away from him so that you can pull up for a shot and not get stuffed. Remember you gonna need to practice and get better with your jump shots. If you can't make a shot when he left you open then you need to get out a work hard on your jump shots.

  10. Try dribbling blind folded or just taking 100 hundred shots a day.   I also suggest better basketball videos, they come in offense, defense, and ball handling.
