Hey, so I am going to be a freshman next year. & I just got out of volleyball season. & I was our teams outside hitter. I have a strong arm, and a pretty decent vertical. Our setter is going to be the varsity setter next year, (yeah I know, she's a freshman!!) So we're not going to have her awesome sets for our freshman team! And I really really really want to make J.V (freshman coach sucks) So what can I do to make my spikes better so I can atleast make it on J.V?!! Advice pleasssee!! (And be detailed with instruction please! thaaannk you. Oh and if you could just give me any extra tips I may need for try outs! thanks a ton!

  1. well for tips about try outs:

always jog to the next drill never walk or groan when you dont want to the drill

    be happy to be there

be on time and try not to miss try-out days.

  2. always get behind the ball and stayy wayyy out unless she is running a 31. also try to get use to her sets.  hope this works

also i played outside hitter for cyc last year and this is the advice to me

  3. Outside may be the easiest position for a new, and inexperienced setter to set for.  While i am sure sets will be erratic at first the setter will get better.  Also not good to worry about things that are out of your control.  My best advise is to learn to hit shots.  Since you are a freshman i am sure that you can't just pound the ball 10 foot line.  Not a problem a majority of hitters can't.  The trick is to use your peripheral vision to see the block and learn to hit shots.  make sure you can go deep corner, cross, hard cross, deep line, tips, rolls.  This can be especially important with inconsistent sets.  There are devices available that will hold volleyballs above the net so you can work on hitting these shots by yourself.  The better option would be to get your setter in there with you and work with her.  There is no substitute for practice and hard work.  Hope this helps.
