Question:

How can I become a farmer in Japan?

I'm wondering if anyone knows of some good websites about becoming a farmer in Japan. Don't worry, I'm going to study Japanese and agriculture first, but in the meantime I'm looking for good reading material. I have good books on sustainable agriculture but I need some that are specific to Japan (books, websites, whatever). Also, does anyone know how to buy a farm or farmland in Japan? I want to know about how much it would cost to get set up with 5 acres or so. Basically, I'm trying to do my research before I go ahead with this, so any websites, books, advice, or other helpful things would be nice. Thanks!

  1. If you are Japanese and have a relative who is a farmer you might work as a Japanese farmer with their permission.

Most Japanese farming is a family business since they are mainly small farms.

If you are not Japanese you stand little chance of becoming a Japanese farmer.

That said, there are many places in the world where you could apply the same techniques Japanese farmers use.  Do extensive Google searches.  Good luck in your adventure.
