How can I become a medical consultant? (in Rep. of Ireland)

-Republic of Ireland requirements preferably-

1. what universities offer degrees..?

2.What subjects to take for leaving cert. for me to pursue this path

3. Any other information on this would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Do you mean a specialist, say for instance  a heart specialist?

    First of all, you need close to 600 points in your Leaving Cert to study medicine in UCI Galway, Dublin or Cork, or perhaps Queens in Belfast  (unless your family is loaded, then you can do it privately in the College of Surgeons).  There is a huge demand for university places in medicine, so the points are huge.  After you qualify as a doctor, you will need further study to become a specialist.

    Subjects for Leaving Cert   -  6 subjects honours level to include Mathematics, English, science subjects  -  biology and chemistry anyway, not sure about physics.  Universities look for a foreign language. I don't think Irish is compulsory any more.
