How can I become a moderator/owner of a group?

The moderator and owner of our group are gone. I am in charge of updating the group site. Is there anyway I can remove them and become the new owner or moderator?

You can't.  The current owner or a current moderator with the privilege is the only one that can make someone else a owner or moderator w/all privileges.  If you can't get in contact with them, it's best to start your own group and post a link to it on the old group and invite current members to join.
