  1. The above poster is wrong. A nurse would never make $600,000. That must be a typo. $60,000 sounds about right though.

There are two paths to becoming a RN (registered nurse): an ADN program through a community college, which generally is one year of pre-reqs and then two years of the nursing program or a BSN through a four year university which is two years pre-reqs, two years nursing program.

You will most likely have to take basic college algebra, intro to chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and microbiology. You may or may not need an intro to cell bio class and an intro to organic chemistry. Compared to what a doctor takes, this isn't that much science and these are all pretty much introduction classes to the science, not the majors classes. I think you can do it if you try your best.

A nurse is not like a doctor, but they have a lot of autonomy and a lot of people don't realize that. They still work under doctors orders, though. You will deal much more with the patient. The doctor is more concerned with the disease and pathology.

I don't know about a health clinic nurse. Are you referring to the "nurses" in a clinic that take your vitals, etc. when you go to the doctor? Those are usually not even nurses these days but medical assistants hired by the doctor. They can either be trained on the job or have completed an training program. They fall under the doctor's license and the doctor can pay them less than a nurse, so that is why a doctor might prefer to hire an MA.

If you want a real career, though, I would go the nursing route. There are many options after you graduating from nursing and many fields out there for you to explore.

  2. My mom's a nurse and she had to study for the RN test and she made it! I still remember the day she got the letter and she was so happy!! now she makes like 600,000 per year

  3. You can get into a 2 year nursing program at some community colleges or private schools specializing in that field. I recommend plenty of biology, anatomy mathematics classes as required as prerequisites.
