Question:

How can I become an editor?

I love editing. I find mistakes everywhere, in books, magazines, newspapers, notes from teachers at school, billboards, etc. I have done editing of court transcripts in the past, but I want to go further. What should I do? What kind of classes should I take? Anything online?

  1. Editing is more than finding mistakes: that is proofreading.

Editing sometimes also requires fact-checking, looking at style (APA, MLA etc), checking tense, and grammar.

English, Philosophy, and Logic (even metaphysics) are part of your college curriculum. Get experience with various publications.

As for an online class or program in editing, I don't know of any, but I did not check: that research would be ideal for someone who wants to become an editor. (grin)

    Good luck
