I'm 17 years old and have cerebral palsy which affects my legs. I get tired easily, can't run fast, and lose balance quicker than others. I don't fall very often tho. I'm also just as smart as others my age and will be going to university in fall 2009. I was wondering how can I become more fit to play ball hockey. I used to play right wing when I was younger when the gap between my peers and me wasn't much. I was actually a top 5 player in my league scoring because of my wrist shot. My friends want me to play in the school league on their team but I said no because I don't want to get to hurt and I may only hurt the team. I'm not very good with the ball running, I usually score off redirections, tip-ins, or wrist shots from in close. I know I have the intelligence to play because I'm a huge hockey fan and have watched the game since I was 7. I know what I should do when playing but because of my body, I can't execute properly.

  1. I am not really sure how to answer your question as I am not any medical professional by any stretch. But I would ask the doctors and coaches for help. Maybe they can get you on a special program to help get you at least more able to keep up. Maybe the coach can use you in special plays during a game. I want to wish you luck. I am sure they will find a way for you to participate. You have the enthusiasm that teams are looking for. Once again good luck.

  2. Practice
