I want to be able to do the splits both ways (one leg in front and one in back, and one leg out to each side), but I'm not very flexible. What are some exercises I can do to become flexible enough to do the splits?

  1. do splits as far as you can. Have a person you trust ease you into it. It is a matter of stretching.

  2. I never used to be able to do them untill i joined acro club, and now i can, jsut stretch once or twice a day and keep doing it each day and you will gradually get there, good luck (:

  3. when you read a book or magazine put your butt against the wall and open your legs and just let gravity pull them down if you do that plus other leg strechs (including your splits) daily you'll improve almost immeadiatly

  4. Its very easy. As many times as you can do a day get into the farthest split and hold it(first do other warm up stretches). Inch your way down and  hold it. Then sit on the floor feet spread apart(way apart) and put your chest to the floor while touching your toes.

  5. do a v strech an put both your hands on one foot then bring both hands around in a circle untill you reach your other foot.

    good luck!

p.s. i'm trying to get flexible to(thats ballet for ya☺)

  6. super easy....work on splits! don't try to reach the ground the first time because you will hurt yourself if you do. i'd say do that about 1-3 times a day (you can do it more than once now because it is the summer. only hold them for about 20 seconds each. you dont need to change into stretchy shorts 3 times a day. just maybe do it in your underwear when you are getting dressed or before you go to bed when you put on your pajamas. (stretchy pajamas?) everyone always has a "bad leg" where the split takes longer to reach the ground.

its proven that if you shake your legs out a little before you do a split, you'll get better results.

  7. Get your muscles warm by excercising, running is easiest. To get flexible you need to stretch lots and lots. Try doing lunges, and sitting on the ground legs stretched to the sides and leaning to each leg one at a time. It will take a long time.

  8. partice alot.

  9. thats exactly wat i tried to do. b4 i learned how to do a proper split, iwas always so close but yet so far. so i think u just have to practice everyday adn u will go down a lil bit each day adn u will eventulaly do a split. hope that works! :]

  10. you have to stretch your legs in everyway when i was a cheerleader what we would do is get against the wall facing the wall spread your legs out against the wall until you feel that your strecting if it doesnt hurt your not doin it right!! we also would get a partner n what your partner would do is you would face each other your partner would place there feet on your ankles and spread your legs out strechin them while pulling them towards you

  11. Thank you for asking this.  I wanted the answer to this one for a while.  Thanks to you I have it now.  If I may suggest the first answerer to get best answer.  It was the best description of all.

  12. Set goals, and stretch a little bit more every few days...how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time

  13. stretch every day.

  14. all i'm saying is

it works. i got the splits in less than three weeks

    (:

  15. I taught my friend how to do the splits this is how:

    where stretchy and comfy clothing

whenever you are doing something sitting down stretch your legs out as wide as possible in the strattle position so they look like this /\ if you keep this up long enough you will grow more flexible and be able to do the splits both ways!

    Good Luck

  16. If you lift your leg up by your head and hold it for a couple minutes every day, you are not only exercising flexibility but also strength and balance too. You can start off by having both legs bent and gradually straightening them over time.

They also have these things that you can buy in Discount Dance Supply Magazine that you hook on to your wall and strap your foot into.

For second splits just get up against a wall and act as if the wall is the floor and spread your legs out. Push  them down as far as they will go and hold them there. it may be painful, but trust me, it works!

  17. Wear clothes that allow you to stretch eg: tracksuit, leotard, swimming costume, shorts etc.

Watch TV, or read a book because this passes by the time while you are stretching, this will distract you from the pain and allow you to stay in the same position without getting too bored.

Spread your legs as wide as they will go,and sit with them wide for 10-15 minutes.

Use something to hold your legs in that wide position such as something heavy and wide like a dresser, a wall, or a person(who slowly widens them with his/her legs).

Stand every 10-15 minutes and allow the pain from the stretch to wear off.

Get stretched faster and do more stretches for the same amount of time.

Repeat the process and allow your self to stretch wider each time for more minutes (25)at least.

Remember to breath deeply and stretch more on exhales

Avoid bouncing and rocking into position or having someone painfully force the stretch. You could tear or damage tendons, ligaments and muscles.

    REMEMBER TO STRETCH EVERY DAY!

    hope I helped XX
