Question:

How can I become part time math teacher?

I am currently working as a electrical engineer in London and I am looking for some part time job on evenings and weekends as a math teacher.

I have a degree in Electrical and Electronics, which involved lots of maths. By the way, I am very good at maths and I always loved it.

Any idea please?

East London would be ideal.

Thanks

  2. I strongly agree with Sarah. If you want to teach maths to children you need to understand maths, but you also have to understand children and how they learn.  If you wish to teach maths, and there is a great demand for maths teachers and you would have no trouble finding a permanent maths teaching post, then apply to do a PGCE when you will be trained in teaching methods, child psychology, etc.,etc.

To teach you need a teaching qualification and to work with children and young people you need a CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) check.  You may well find work as a private tutor but most people looking for one would want to know what experience you have working with children/young people.

  3. You'll need a teaching qualification.

From what little you say you're just looking for extra income -and there's nothing to say why you want to teach. You might have some relevant subject knowledge but that's only a small part of the job.

I suggest you consider other jobs.

  4. you need to get a teaching qualification really. you could try offering your services in local paper, but don't think you will get very far. There are too many teachers out there willing to tutor so if you are in competition with them, then i don't rate your chances. Just because you know how to do math work doesn't mean you could teach it.

I am a teacher and used to tutor maths at night - I charged £20 an hour, but that is in Wales. The first thing parents asked for were my qualifications and experiences with children.  Sorry. If teaching is what you really want to do, why not think about doing a PGCE.
