I live in MA, and hope to work in special education- How do I get the proper licence? I have my Bachelors Degree (in history) , I took the MTEL test with English as the subject- what additional tests do I need to take , and what addition credentials do i need to be qualified as a special education teacher in MA?

Do I need a Masters degree in special education before I can become a teacher in that field?

I'd love to work with students who have learning disabilities, such as autism, add, etc..

Also- is there a high demand for special ed teachers in MA- and what is the usual starting salary? Thanks

  1. Your best bet would be to contact the state office of Public Instruction or whatever they call it in MA.  They probably have a website where you can find the specific requirements for teaching special ed.  It varies from state to state.

There is always a demand for special ed teachers.
