  1. Read a good daily and Sunday newspaper such as the NY Times./ Read books from the best seller list and whatever else interests you. Take some adult education and/or college classes.


  2. Start watching the news, history channel, etc...

  3. Good for you for wanting to expand your horizons! You should keep spending time with the people you look up to, ask them questions, and when you feel confident, jump in with your opinion. Also, start watching the news, read a lot of books, and sign up for a continuing education course where you can learn with no pressure to get a good grade (or any grade, really).

  4. Keep hanging around those people!  Ask questions, read newspapers and magazines, watch a variety of newscasts (not just one channel).  Those people got "smarter" about those topics because they read a lot and talk about those topics with other people who know about them.  Do the same - it'll pay off, I promise!
