A good option is to invest in a 401K if your employer sponsors it.  Even better if they offer a "match", being they match a % of your funding.

Otherwise, check out the discount brokers.  I personally use izone by ameritrade, $5 a trade.

Start small and build depending on your risk tolerance.  Look at ETF's to start, check out USO and UNG that follow oil and natural gas respectively.

Use online resources such as yahoo finance, the street.com and motley fool for investing ideas.
