How can I best clean my synthetic stock on my remington model 700 XCR?

Will some cleaning agents or gun oils damage my stock?

I was at a hunting/firearm's show once and they recommended using a "matte" finish Armourall as it doesn't produce a glare and cleans while protecting.  The matte finish is harder to find.

On my synthetic stocks,I use a no odor furniture polish.It cleans,and protects the stock,deters dust,and won't get you "busted" in the deer stand.
