Anyone done this before? What should I take into consideration in planning such a trip like this. What personal advice would you have. What kind of resources would you recommend?

  1. hi there i would just like to say good luck, have you thought of maybe attaching a camera to the bike's frame to record your trip the highs the lows? you'll be able to share your for ever lasting memorys with the family/friends/kid;s/grandchildren. it will truely be once in a life time expeirence you may also inspire alot more people to attempt it .

  2. a lot of people do this.  i haven't checked, but i'll guess there are several articles on t he internet with info.  there are probably even groups that do this.

  3. Lots of folks have done this.    Look into Race Across America  (RAAM).    You'll find a bunch of information on what's involved.

  4. Absolutely, and many people have done it.

I would suggest acquiring a small bike trailer for equipment & supplies. You would Ideally want to go low across the south to avoid just seeing plains for a month straight.

The TransAmerica trail is a 6800 km. long bicycle trip, from coast to coast, across the United States of America.  The trail was first cycled in 1976 to celebrate the 200th birthday of the U.S.A.

    All the best!

  7. If you live on the West Coast, start riding towards the east.  If you live on the East Coast, head west.  If you live in the Midwest then you should move.

  8. buy a bike first

  9. Add a motor onto your bicycle! Thats step one, get a huge backpack full of water and food and a tent!

Well thats all I could recommend!

  10. lots of training! your going to travel 3000 miles. how long do you plan to be on your trek? can you handle 60-80-100 miles a day? make sure you have the bike you plan to ride well in advance! you need time to make sure it is the right bike for the trek. how much gear are you bringing? are you camping, or looking for motels, b&bs, mixing it up? once you've selected your route, get some good road maps & travel guides from AAA, for the states you plan to ride through. good luck!
