Question:

How can I block AM from a wire?

I have an "Invisible Fence" system for my dog, because of the unusual layout of my yard I need to block the AM signal coming from the wire for a stretch.

Is there some type of DIY shielding I can make to block the signal coming from the wire?

  1. This doesn't make a great deal of sense. If you want no signal, why not just switch the drive off?

You can shield wire by putting a screen around it and earthing the screen although the more normal arrangement is to use shielded wire (or even co-axial cable). But it's effectiveness varies. If the shield gets excited (no, I am not joking) it will radiate which might lessen the impact of the exercise.

  2. Just use a piece of well grounded coax in that stretch instead of wire. The RG6 you get at Radio Shack or Home Depot will work.

  3. RG56 Coaxial just uses grounded aluminum sheilding outside the dielectric and copper.  You can do the same with some wire mesh wrapped around 2 2x4's with a space inbetween for the dogwire to traverse through. Then, bury the 2x4's. Voila
