While at work my mentally challenged son is accepting collect calls from a relative who is locked up in jail. No one else in the entire family will accept this person's calls and he know this so he'll call my home knowing my son who is slow will accept the calls. Please advise and please be gentle in your responses. This situation is stressful enough without people being mean. thank you.

  1. When the person from jail calls they will be an automated voice on the phone that says " an inmate from whatever jail would like to speak with you" and the persons says there name ( like a collect call) and then AFTER that it will say press 1 to accept call press 2 to block calls from this facility. Not all jails are set up exactly like that but they are pretty close to that. There shoudl be an option when that person calls to block them that way u dont have to go through ur phone company and all the hassle. In the mean time cant u talk to ur son and ask him not to do this anymore and explain why. I understand he is mentally challenged but if he is okay enough to stay at home by himself im sure he will understand.  Good luck

  2. Contact you phone service provider and they should be able to tell you how to block any calls. This is another example of liberties people in jail should not have. Maybe you should go to the DA and tell them what's going on. They should be able to put a stop to it as well.

  3. As stated by RetroRanch...  FIRST, call the facility.  They just have to block your number in their system.  I believe they can block your number for one inmate or for all inmates.  Contact you relatives case manager or counselor, they may be able to assist you within minutes.  Some facilities require written requests.  Either way, you can have this done.

  4. You can call your phone company and ask that they not allow collect calls.  Of course you won't be able to receive any from anyone else either, but you can always have them change it back in the future.  Good luck!

  5. FIRST, call the facility. Since this is a common problem, and because almost all run on a contract phone system (hence, the very high tolls) that provides controls. They may very well just have to block your number in their system. If they offer a choice between blocking just calls from the relative or all calls from there, consider blocking all calls to keep him from getting other inmates to call.

  6. You have to call the phone company to block collect calls regardless.  However, if you are stuck in never never land and need to contact someone from a payphone for some reason, you will also be blocked...  Just something to keep in mind.  If you use Verizon and they are calling a cell phone, they won't block anything!

  7. Call the phone company and maybe they can block the caller....

Call the jail and complain to the warden...

  8. You can have your phone company block the calls. Often the procedure is defined in the front of the phone book. If not, call your phone company and ask them how.

You can also block all collect calls, but you may not want to do that in case someone else needs you in an emergency.

  9. we could incarcerate Hancock again and have him handle those buggers who are clogging your phone line--- seriously your phone company should be able to handle this no problem.

  10. Sorry to hear about your problem. Call the telephone company and have a collect call block placed on your phone. This also prevents people from calling from one place to another and charging it to your phone.

    Good luck to you!

  11. You can call your phone company and they will be able to put a block on your phone for collect calls.

  12. Contact your phone company. They may be able to block that number. You need to have a serious talk with your Son.
