Question:

How can I block light and noise in my baby's room?

I have a 3 month old and her room is very sunny and noisy, so she keeps waking up during naps. Her room has bay windows so I need to cover 4 of them. I would like to find a blind that can block light and noise that is affordable (since we are renting and we'll stay here only for a year) and still look cute. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  1. An insulating curtian over the whole bay would help.

  2. Obtain some big cardboard boxes of the sort fridges and stoves come in.  Cut panels of cardboard to fit the windows.

On one side, glue or tape aluminum foil shiny side out; on the other glue on a pretty wall paper (you can get discontinued rolls quite cheap at most wall paper places).

Use a needle or straight pin to prick a pattern through the whole thing.

If you cut them carefully to size, these panels will block out all of the window light (and much of the summer heat and winter chill).  The will also provide a surprising amount of sound insulation.  The pin prick pattern will cast a lacy pattern on the wall and provide a gentle light.

You might also want to install a closet door k**b on each panel to make them easier to place and remove.
