How can I block noise made by other cube mates?

Question

I work in a cube in a very busy office. How can I block out or limit the noise? I use ear plugs but after a while, it gets irritating. I am unable to hang things on the wall. Any suggestions?

Tell them to quiet down.  I can't really think of anything else.

Years ago I had a similar experience.  I bought a small inexpensive radio with headset.  It worked like magic!

gutted for you, I hate it and have shouted at even the director for disturbing me whilst on a call.  Other than requesting a noise level check with health and safety to see if the constant noise is above permitted levels theres not alot you can do.

1) spk with workmates, try and reduce your noise levels together.

2) headphones - listen to music (I know this isn't likely)

3) have a word with ur boss and advise that it is lowering productivity through headaches / noise breaks etc.

Are you able to listen to music?  If so, I would suggest an ipod or radio or something.

dont use ear plugs. use noise reduction ear protectors. like the ones they use on the airports. they are extremly comfortable and cheap. (you will find in home depot) but ugly. jijiji

Yes, good luck!  As I type this the guy next to me is droning on about his wife's new job (like anyone cares) and the guy on the other side of me is clipping his fingernails. From the sound of it and the duration that it is taking he must have 900 fingers.  Eww.

Good suggestions so far.  I wish I could suggest something to help.  I drown them out with my iPod but like you my ears start to hurt after a while.  Can you maybe move to another cube where it is quieter?
