I'm not looking to buy any more RAM or a better GPU, I'm just wondering if it's possible to boost my PC's performance by removing uneeded tasks, downloading software to give it a little boost or something.

I sound dumb :P

Pretty sure you can do something like this though...

  1. There is a software possibility. Registry cleaners are speeding up your computer performance by cleaning the registry from errors and invalid entries which every registry has. over the time the registry is becoming corrupted after installations and uninstallations of programs. This makes the computer slow down and have poorer performance than when you got it. The use of registry cleaners keep the registry clean of errors and invalid entries, and by that it increases your computer performance. You can find more informations and reviews on registry cleaners at the link below.

  2. One program I used in the past was SpeedUpMyPC.  With it you can reduce the amount of memory for particular applications.  I had a old Compaq with a PII, by itself it ran rather slow, with a few tweaks and using SpeedUpMyPC, it ran a lot faster.  Not knowing what type of applications you are using but anti-virus software or like Norton Utilities will slow your PC way down.  I switched to AVG Anti-virus, it has a much smaller memory footprint and works just as good and its free.  I found much open-source applications use a lot less memory compared to store bought software.
