After about 400 meters I run out of breath, I'm not out of shape or too thin, I'm about average.

  1. what helps me when I run is I breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth this helps me control my breathing and slow down my heart rate. I also do not get cramps when I do this. You have to make sure you take slow deep breaths though. This helps might I have told other's this and some say it works and some say it doesn't. Hope this helps.

  2. If you are running out of breath fast, that's natural, a lot of times it just talks time.  You need to try to focus on your breathing by trying to slow it down.  Practice on rhythmic breathing like breathing in for 2 steps and out for 2 steps.  Another thing that I have found to really help is swimming.  In swimming, rhythmic breathing if very important, and it as helped me in every single one of my other sports including cross country.

  3. 400 meters is one lap. and there are 4 laps in 1 mile. I'm on the soccer team and we run at least 2 miles everyday. What i usually do is breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth. While you run, count from 1-5 and then keep repeating that in your head slowly to keep a steady pace. The most important thing is to keep your back straight so you can get the most out of every breath of oxygen. Make sure you have strides that are not too long to conserve energy for a long distance run. Also, you have to pump your arms accordingly with your leg movements so your rhythm can stay steady. Just remember to relax and take deep long breaths. If you want to sprint then take fast breaths. Good luck!
