How can I bring an airsoft gun to airporting baggage "checking in". Jet Blue?

I am wondering how you can check in an airsoft gun. Do i put it with my baggage? Is there any special procedures? No I am not thinking about taking this with me to carry on :)

Actually you can, I take my regular guns on hunting trips.  Here is what you need to do. You need to be 18 or older. Purchase a locking hard case and a trigger lock.  Secure the airsoft gun with a trigger lock and place in the hard case.  You will need to declare this to the ticketing agent upon check in.  The TSA guys may want to inspect it and make sure it's not loaded.  You can only check firearms, you can not bring them on as carry-on.

I would also call Jet Blue to see if they have any additional instructions for transporting firearms.  I've referenced the Jet blue website for firearm transport below.
