Question:

How can I bring my dogs to Jamaica with Me?

I am moving to Jamaica and have been told that if the dog is not from the UK, then it is not allowed in. I know that this is a general rule because they do not want rabies, but it does not make sense. There has got to be a way to bring your dog with you if you are moving there from the US. I am sure all of the hotels owners get this privilege, but what is the deal? Does anybody know anyone who pulled this off or is over there with no problem with there dog? Please help with all of the usable infor that you have.Thanks.

  1. It is not allowed to take dogs here because of the many diseases found on animals overseas.

  2. nope no dogs from other country are allowed here

  3. a little payola to the ministry of the interior will do it.Large bills and many of them is all you need.go without the dogs and make a contact.EVERYTHING in Ja is related to the buck. Why in the world would you want to live in that hellhole its ready to explode socially.Have you spent time in Ja?

  4. This answer is dedicated to the 'a**" who thinks jamaica is a h**l hole.

Animals coming into the island need to be quarantined. Importing from some countries is banned, because of the types of diseases that exist in those countries. Since the U.S.A. has seen cases of rabies (albiet only a few), they would be extra strict with animal imports from that country.

To do it, you could begin by:

    1. Contacting Jamaica Customs.

    2. Contacting the Ministry of Agriculture (Quarantine Division)

    3. Calling a Customs Broker.

    4. Contacting Air Jamaica. They can give you some of the specific rules for animals to be carried by air.

There may actually be specified periods of quarantine on both the Jamaican and USA sides of the journey.

As far as doing it the illegal way, many of the pitbulls in florida are actually illegally imported from Cuba. The USA has  BIG problem with diseased animals being carried in and out of thier country - its even easier than drugs.

Some people just drug thier animal and carry it on a private boat or plane or on a cruise ship in thier luggage.

Jamaica is fighting a similar battle, but so far our canine population is free of rabies.

  5. I am sorry.  I know a pet is like a member of the family.

But Jamaica has never had a dog with Rabies, and that is the only way they think they can prevent it.

  6. I did some searching & it seems Jamaica is VERY serious about their "no rabies" status...I couldn't find any info on how to get around their laws. Here's what it says on their website...doesn't look good for your dog....:-(
