I want to give my father a gift, so I want to make him panelized walls and send them to him in kit form, like those kits they sell.

I think that If I build it myself I can save money.

  1. all you do is frame your walls just like you would on job-site. just be sure to stick to smaller sections (you do need to ship them ya know). make sure you put your boxes and tees (L and U shaped preproduction items) so that your interior walls have something to attach to when you have at it. label the top plate on all of them and lay out the house plans with the same numbers. just like "real" framing you should leave the exterior walls an 1 1/2" short to accommodate the final top plate overlapping/bracing. you can sheet ahead of time just remember you'll need to make sure you line your studs up to run along on 16" centers so your 1st one will lose 1 1/2" as well. we used to sheet the walls prior to shipping to keep them square and you might as well route the window and door openings too to speed things up (unless you're not sure how quickly you'll be dried in)
