How can I build a play area for my Guinea Pig?

with common house hold objects. It will not be part of the cage.

It is for "Floor Time"

you can use boxes, books, pillows, furniture, etc. to make a barrier

Why not put a box opened on one side on the floor and have a plank of some kind leading up to it but make sure it will hold up the guinea pig. Put a little treat at the top so it has something to work for. And the open part should be facing left or right so the guinea pig can even sit in it with some soft cloth or something.

I fold pieces of paper into tubes. Just get a regular plain sheet of paper and roll it around then tape it with clear tape. You can also use egg cartons. Cut out the slots and they love to run through them. You can also use a toilet paper roll. My guineas love to climb so you could use a cardboard box to cut out a ramp. There are lots of ways, just be creative. If you're looking for a place to put it all, I have my own room that we don't use that they have to run around in. If a room is unavailable try a corner in a room or use your room! Good luck!

You can just lay out stacks of heavy books around him/her, if  you are risking the slight chance of it chewing on the corners. Or you can just buy a play pen from walmart for about $10.00. It is wired and self assembled so you can set it up near a wall, or in the middle of the floor. You can also collapse it and you can put it away when done.

I bought the play pen from Wal-Mart and it is great for them. Also, pet stores have this bigger round play pens usually used for ferrets but it works for the Guinea pigs as well. The play pens at the pet stores are more expensive than the wal-mart one's though.

Use the extra grids to block off areas or make a play pen. Put down cardboard boxes, tunnels, bells, things for them to explore.
