How can I calculate the latency between audio signals - say from a VOIP system?

Trying to calculate the time difference as one hears an audio sound byte delivered from a microphone, through a set of head phones.

  1. I don't think you can calculate it, as it can vary from hour to hour, or from second to second. The path may include a satellite link (22k miles) or two, or may include none.

    IP packets can take any path, and you can't guess at what it is ahead of time, although you can get an idea of it afterwards by asking the router for the path a packet took.
