Question:

How can I calm a Chinese Algae Eater

I have a Chinese algae eater in a tank with 5 glowlight tetras and all the CAE does is chase and harass the tetras. I would hate to have to get rid of him (or kill him) but that seems to be what it is coming to. Is there a way to keep the CAE from chasing its tankmates? I tried dividing the tank a little more with plants, but that didn't work. Any tips?

  1. they tend to be very aggressive and they get very large. The best thing to do is return it. although by buying and not being informed you have still made a commitment to take care of it. When you return it it will probably die. Maybe you should read up on your fish first.

  2. theres not much you can do. they just get agressive.

Do you specially feed it? They NEED meat in the diet. Try throwing a hunk of shrimp in there for him, and he MIGHT stop going after the tetras.

  3. you can always get a smaller aquarium and put him in there.

or give him back to the pet store..but do not release him.

    good luck

  4. It is in their nature, youre lucky you dont have larger or slower fish. You may trying feeding him more or maybe a dead fish, I am not sure it will help much. If not just release him in a local pond.
