How can I calm down?

Long story short:

My dad is going to jail for white collar crimes. He cheated on my mom with a well-known actress, model, and author. My mom has a drinking problem and gets irritated easily after 4pm (although she is not abusive). My family is publically humiliated because the local newspapers (NY Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and Delaware Weekly) are insulting my family and father. My father is up really late at night trying to get his new company up and running.

I have a lot of summer homework (private schools give a lot) and I have to help my two brothers with their homework too. I also have to type up a trust fund contract for my dad's new companies (he introduced me into the business world in 1st grade when he had me sign a $200 million contract and now he wants me to take over his companies when I turn 25 y/o and get my trust fund money).

Basically I was this wealthy 13 year old who has fallen from paradise

We've sold 2 jets, 3 houses, 2 boats, several luxury cars, a limo, and we have had to dismiss a private chef, an in house manager, and a full-time housekeeper. My parents expect me to take care of everyone and everything.

I am WAY too young to be an adult but I was forced to grow up quickly because of the press and peer pressure.

I am constantly stressed out, I can't talk to my parents, I can't talk to school counselors (it's summer until September 10), and my friends take everything for granted and think my dad will be out of this mess as soon as his hotshot lawyer (the one who got Michael Jackson out of his molesting case) clears his name.

The fact is that he is a guilty man and is going to jail for a long time.

How do I calm down and relax?

    I don't believe you.

  10. i'm not sure this is real but if it is then you should try just talking to people and keep a notebook or something

  11. Basically I was this wealthy 13 year old who has fallen from paradise ??

paradise ??? well why complain :S

  12. I'd start with not making up elaborate stories about being rich and having a this secret high power family :)

  16. eat some icecream!!! it helps me!!

  17. Hire me for a mere $100,000.00 a year to come and take over some of your responsibilities.   Oh, I will need a signing bonus of $50,000 to get out from under some debt so that I can move there from here.

  18. Find a book that's main idea is related to your life. I've tried this and it really works. Books are like people.  Don't feel to down.

  26. The school has councelors, and programs for you, not to mention the companies of which you are a part provide a wide variety of options. There are many ~ seemingly unlimited avenues for you to pick and choose.

    Good luck

  27. Wow!  You are dealing with a lot.  I'm sorry that your dad has to go to prison.  But, at least you have your mom.  And you will learn how to cope without all of the things you are used to.  As far as the press, ask you parents if your attorney can ask them to stop commenting.

  28. put your attention on being the 13 year old kid.

not the 13 year old adult who carries the world on her shoulders.

    thats not healthy.

once you turn 18 or older then you'll have to learn to become a true

    hardworking adult.

    other than that.

focus on being young and have fun.

  29. I suggest taking things one thing at a time and focus on the day you are in.  The future will take care of itself.  If you have faith, rely on God and if you need time for yourself..do something you enjoy for a few days.

  30. Sorry bout that, hun =(

I'm going through a difficult time in my life right now as well w/ my parents and jobs. I totally feel for you ...

To calm down I have just been spending the time enjoying what I DO have... like going on my laptop, listening to my iPod, if I have any spare money I go shopping.

Meditating is another good way. Praying can help some people calm down too, if you're religious.

Watching TV can get my mind off of things as well.

    (((*hugs*)))

  31. Your story has a couple of holes in it.

First, you claim that the story is in the newspapers, and then you say that we've never heard of you?  Ummmmmm.....

Second, no businessman (no matter how bad) would allow their six-year-old to sign $200M contract, and no lawyer would accept that signature as valid.

Whatever your deal, you clearly have some problems.  I would recommend professional help.
