How can I change from lineman to linebacker?

I am currently an offensive and defensive lineman in highschool. I would really like to become a middle linebacker. I am 6' and weigh 185. I am probably the fastest lineman, but want some tips to increase my agility. Also, how can I increase my reaction time?

  1. Show your coach that you are a really good tackler, that's how I became linebacker.


  2. Have you ever heard of a running parachute?  My son talks about how good they are.  Do you do those tire exercises and all the football exercises all summer.

  3. dude why would you want to change for?

    im a diffencive/offenceve linebacker as well, i like to hit people. but if you want to get more agility and encrease raction time stretch more and try to gain lean muscle.( do the workout that requires sets and repetitions more often, and if you bench do less weight more times. this will build more lean muscle. if you do more weight less reps it will build bulk.) as for reaction time have your friend trow rocks at you, no im kidding. i dont really know what to do for raction ask you coach, if you find out tell me.

    work on agility - weaves, run all out short sprints - front, side, back.  run tire obstacles.

  6. Well, lose weight if you are fat first. But more importantly, run up steep hills. The parachute is a good variation of that. For reflexes, throw a tennis ball at a wall and catch it. When you get good at that, throw it harder and harder. Once you throw it really hard, try closing your eyes when you throw it and open when it hits the wall. You can also move closer to the wall. Again, running up hills or with some sort of resistance does wonders. That's what Walter Payton did, and he's fast but extremely powerful. Which is a perfect combination for linebacker. For speed, work your core. Do situps with dumbells in your hands. Train your legs to. Do back squats and box squats. THOSE LEG EXERCISES WILL BE USELESS WITHOUT PLYOMETRICS!!!! Plyometrics are very important to turn your muscle into explosive power. Good luck!!!!!
