I remember once I was looking around stuff on my computer and I found something to change my IP address. I think it was a Command Prompt command but I'm not sure. Is there a way to do this without completely losing my internet or anything?

  1. Your IP address is dynamically assigned by your ISP. It changes every so often, but you cannot force it to change.

The only way to try and "force" a change in your IP address is to power-off your modem for an extended amount of time (overnight). It's possible when you turn it back on you will be assigned a new IP address.

You may also want to clear out your cookies and CCleaner is great free program that will do this for you (it also removes all traces of your online activites).

  2. If your PC's ip address is assigned dynamically then you can go to the command prompt and issue this 'ipconfig /renew'. This will renew the ip address but the list of available ip addresses. However, since most probably your pc is the only one at home, it will get the same ip address again. If you really want to change it then you might need to assign it manually. To do this, go to Control Panel + Network Connections + right click on Local Area Connection and choose Properties. Double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and chosse "Use the following IP address". From here you need to know what valid ip address/subnet mask and Default Gateway. You can't anyhow put any ip address.
