How can I change the bass / sound on already uploaded from dvd MPEG files, as they ae too bassy!?

I have uploaded some movies from my sony handycam camcorder, and the sound is way too bassy!

How can I change the sound, so that it is equalised?

The files have been saved the PC as MPEG.

Download and install Audacity.

Using a video editor (at least my video editors - iMovieHD and FinalCut), extract the audio... Launch Audacity. Make the audio adjustments. In the video editor, import the "new" audio, mute the old audio. Save the video file with the new audio.
