Question:

How can I change the temperature in my room?

It's almost summer and now, my room is starting to get extremely hot and my parents use the "WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY" air conditioning excuse. So, I was wondering if there was any way to cool down my room because not even air conditioning in the summer (or heating in the winter) can get through it. I think its because i only have one vent which is located on the floor whereas, my little brother has a vent on the floor and one in the wall and his room is always the appropriate temperature.

Any suggestions will help!

(except things like "stick your head in the freezer")

  1. i have the same problem. The a/c in my house isnt big enough for our entire house, so i have to use a window a/c. it helps a lot, and are typically only about $90 at their cheapest. even the small, cheap ones are fine, and work great.

if all else fails, do what i do sometimes, sleep wherever the room temp. feels good. lol, i no its not the best answer, but i have the same problem, and i do this.

  2. Open your window at night when it's cooler, or buy a fan!

  3. Get it as dark as you can. Paint the walls a dark color and get light colored sheets. Put foil over the windows to block out the sun. If the walls are dark, remember, dark colors hold in heat and light colors reflect heat. Get a fan and open the window at night.

  4. When you open your window, if there is a bottom and a top sash (glass), open the window both at the top and the bottom.  The hot air in your roomwill go out the top and the cooler air outside will come in.  If you can put a window fan in front of the bottom of the window, that will help a lot.  If you don't have a window...then I dont' know what else you can do but a fan will help.

You'll need your parents permission to put in a window air conditioner.

Growing up we only had one window air conditioner so we all slept on the floor in that one room when it was over 90 degrees.

If your house has a finished basement, the basement is usually much cooler so see if you can sleep there on the hottest days.
