How can I check the total engine hours on my boat?

On the 2000 Yamaha Outboard I do not believe you can get the hours from the MODE function.  I would suggest taking it to a Yamaha Service Department and have them check it out.  

If you purchased the engine new you may be able to estimate the total hours by taking the the total days of use and your average hours per trip.

By pushing the "mode function" on the tach you should be able to pull up the hour meter. If there is no hour meter on the boat a yamaha tech can hook up his computer to the engine and get the hours. Thats the only way I know.
