I don't have an owners manual for my 2001cavalier with the 2.2L 5-speed and i can't find the dipstick, i did find a red cap that said "trans fluid" but it doesn't have a dipstick on it and it is sealed underneath it. is there somewhere else i can look? and yes i am experienced in maintaining my own vehicles.

  1. Your car has no means of checking the fluid level...whether its an automatic or manual.

    Good luck!

  2. if theres no dipstick its probly a sealed tranmission but theres a plug on the side of the transmission park ur vehicle on level ground take the plug out and u should b able 2 feel fluid

  3. you state 5 speed but your description sounds like an automatic, the manual trans (5 spd) has no dipstick or red cap but you have to remove a plug from the side of the trans to check or add fluid, the automatic (4 spd) may or may not have a dipstick the ones without a dipstick have a round red plug for the fill port to check the fluid in these you warm up the trans get under the car with it running and LEVEL and remove a small plug from the passenger side of the trans if fluid runs out there is enough fluid in the trans if not add until it does
