How can I clean battery acid that leaked on an old electric train?

My Kids and me are trying to rezerrect an old Lionel Train--it hasnt been used in almost 25 years or more, upon opening the engine car, there was an Everyready battery still in there completley eroding and dried acid everywhere--I need tips on how to clean this please

  1. Baking Soda directly on the white corrosion.  You may have to dampen slightly with water to make it activate.  

    Rinse with water when clean.


  2. Baking soda mixed in water (like a tablespoon in a quart of water or so) works for the chalky white build-up that you find on car battery terminals... so that might work, but of course you need to decide if the water might do more harm than good?? Good luck!

  3. I would use a solution of baking soda and water and an old tooth brush...also after you are finished you can use a hair drier to dry it out.

  4. Soda water or a mixture of baking soda and water will nuetralize the acid.  Do not use any soda pop as it has dextrose or sugar type substances in them and that is yet another mess
