  1. For me I always make my bed first, for some reason it makes the whole room look cleaner  Then i just put all the stuff that has a definite or defined space for where it belongs in that space...this allows me to see all the other junk and decide if I should keep it or not.. you could also use the rule that everytime that you buy a duplicate of something you should always take something else out

  2. Take some time to think about what you want your room to look like. I like to think of it as creating a vision of your perfect space. Imagine that you took everything out of your room and you could set it up and organize it exactly how you wanted it to look. What would that look like for you? Even if you can't create this "perfect" space, this can at least give you a starting point.

Some other things that can help:

    1. Create different "zones" in your room. For example, art zone, tv zone, computer zone. Then only put those things in that zone that belong there.

    2. Go through every item in your room and ask yourself when you used it last. If you can't remember, probably time for it to go. Also ask yourself if it is adding value to your life. If it isn't, why are you keeping it?

  3. If you have a whole day to just go through everything and figure out what you really need in your room; then I would suggest to either put the unused things you want to keep in a storage unit until you need to use them or store them in your close/garage. Hope this helps!

  4. a wall of shelves

Lots of clear stackable boxes(so you can see inside without opening every one)  -- some large sticky labels for the boxes might be a good Idea.

Look for this book for more ideas - things to buy and make

there are similar books too - I found the above book a few years ago, very interesting

  5. Goodwill! then organize winter clothes summer clothes.  the season not currenty in use goes under the bed in storage bins (Target/Wal-mart).  Go through junk! That is the biggest clutter! Garbage things that are useless and Goodwill the usables but stuff that you have not USED in a year.
