  1. You might check on several things before landing on the dogs.  Are you sleeping on pillows that have dust mite covers?  National Allergy Labs sells covers for your bedding that do a good job of eliminating this factor.  You might also check on dust or mold/mildew in general.  They're common allergens and in a home that's been closed up, could be factors.  I'd clean every inch of the place (deep clean carpets, dust, etc).  Also check on what's in bloom in your area right now -- it could be that you've got allergies to something outdoors that is bothering you.  I think Yahoo has an allergy report you can pull for your area that will say what is in bloom and how intense allergy levels are at the moment.  If you go through all of this and you're still feeling miserable, you can have the air ducts cleaned in your home and replace the air filters to see if that helps reduce what's in the air.  You might also get a HEPA air filter for the room you sleep in (Honeywell and others make them for around $70 to $100) and you can get one at Lowes or Home Depot.  Hope this helps and that you're feeling better soon!

  2. You can try to find some cedarbow's and in a little pot break off a little and light them. This is called smugging and go around you house with them slowly smouldering, just make sure you have them in a little pot so if something falls off you don't make a fire. If you want to you may use sage and cedar it purifies the air and it cleans it. It also helps you allergies.

  3. Can you open the windows to let in fresh air from outside.?   Then open them.   That is the only pure air you are gonna find.

Thing is, do you have the sniffles when you are outside?   Inside?    If you have it only when you are inside, (you have narrowed it down)     then your inside is dirty - be it dusty, needs vacuuming or cleaning or what.....but the whole house needs it from ceiling to floor.....and every stick of furniture and every piece of clothing.

  4. I'll tell you what's a cheap and very effective way to get your house odour and bacteria free. Buy some charcoal, wet them and put them in a bowl. You can put this bowl wherever you please in your house and you may even want to have several of these bowls with wet/damp charcoal in it. Charcoal is extremely effective in removing unpleasant odours and germs in the air. You can try it out in the shoe closet and you'll be surprised the next time you open your closet, it's odour free. Ensure you keep the charcoal wet/damp as it's most effective only when so.

  5. Get a air purifier, most are designed for individual room use rather than the whole house.
