I have the Logitech X540 5.1 Speaker System. To connect it to a computer, there is 3 cords, one for the center/sub, one for the front, and one for the rear(pictures can be seen here: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/x540/3.htm )

I need to connect this to my dell inspiron e1505 laptop, but my laptop, but it only has one audio-out. I still want to get the effects of the surround sound. How can I connect this?

  1. Connect your stereo system as normal and use a red/white audio cable in the auxillary mode then connect it where the headphone jack is. You'll have super sound in no time.

  2. Your speaker system is designed for desktop computers with audio/sound cards that do provide separate audio for sub, rear, and front.

Your laptop simply provides stereo audio. Connect it to the 'front" speakers. Do check if your speaker system has a pseudo-surround mode where it generates full surround sound from only stereo.
