Question:

How can I connect my PC to my cable set top box?

I have a Media Center PC with an IR blaster port, and a set-top box with a IR command port. I also have an IR blaster cable, and an IR receiver cable, both of which appear to be using nothing more than standard mono audio cables.

My question is, can I simply connect a mono audio cable between the two, and will it work? Will Windows be smart enough to detect the setup, and if not, is there anything I can do to make it work?

It doesn't work with a stereo audio cable (I tried that), and I just wanna know if it'll work before I run out and buy an otherwise useless mono audio cable.

I know that I could just tape the IR blaster to the IR receiver, but that seems a waste if a simple cable connection would work just as well.

  1. I don't know exactly what you are trying to do...  Are you trying to control your cable box with Media Center?  Uh, I am gonna say no.......  Not sure why you want to...

You can always use a sling box to control your cable box and stream the video / audio to the PC.
