How can I connect my friends laptop to internet through an ethernet cable?

I am trying to connect my friends laptop that he usually connects wireless. When we run an ethernet from the sbc yahoo router to the lap top it won't let us connect and it says firewalled or something similar. Also, I already have one computer wired to the router and I have had multiple computers wired to it before.

Make sure the NIC is configured with valid IP settings.  Maybe it's manually set and not getting a DHCP address, if in fact you are using DHCP.  I would start there, plus, disable any firewalls until you get things working, this might help your troubleshooting.
