  1. Most corded electric lawnmowers have DC motors but some may actually have an AC motor, so first, one has to find out if your lawnmower motor is AC or DC.  If it is DC (or universal type) then a suitable battery supply (usually 24 volts, but often 12 volts), can be connected to the + and - terminals of the motor.  If the motor is AC or induction type, then a DC to AC conversion will be required.  As someone has already mentioned, this can become a costly project, but if that is what you wish to do as a hobby project or as a learning experience then by all means try it.
Otherwise, the most economical method may be to purchase a cordless electric mower.

  4. you need to get a DC to AC power inverter, the kind that converts the 12 volts from your cigarette lighter to 120 volts AC. just connect the DC end to a 12 volt battery, and plug the AC end into the mower. doneskies. if you're feeling really ambitious, you can even mount a solar panel on there, so the battery charges when not in use.

  5. You dumb asses, the electric motor is DC.  There is already a AC to DC converter in the lawn mower motor.  All that is needed is a battery source with enough power to move the motor.
