I have a show saved on my comcast DVR. I want this show on my computer because I want to cut it up and put some of it on youtube.

I have Windows media center and a tv tuner card on my computer. I started the show on my tv and then connected my cable cord to my computer. I opened windows media center clicked "Live Tv" and I could see the show on my computer. I pressed the record button but it wouldn't record. Is there any way that I can turn this live feed into a file that plays in windows media player without the cable being connected to my computer?

  1. I can't help you with why Windows Media Center won't let you record (it should....that's one of its features...)

The easiest way to get a show from your DVR to your PC is to use a DVD recorder.  This is basically like a VCR but uses a burnable DVD instead of a tape.  Connect the DVD recorder to your DVR.  Then simply start the show on the DVR, and hit the record button on the recorder.  You can even pause the recorder while you skip over commercials.  Once you're done, be sure to finalize the DVD.  This allows it to be played on any DVD player, including the one in your PC.

Now you can use your favorite video editing tool on the PC to convert the video on your DVD to whatever format youtube uses.

  2. Hi kjones600,

You can do it with DVD Xpress.

With DVD Xpress you can transfer your video to your hard drive and then edit it if you desire. DVD Xpress comes with basic video editing software. I got mine at Sam's for $59.95. They are cheaper now. You can look at one & read about it here - http://www.usb-ware.com/ads-dvd-xpress.h...

I saw a newer model at WalMart recently. It was the DVD Xpress2. I can’t remember what it cost.

You connect the composite output of your DVR into the DVD Xpress and connect the DVD Xpress to your computer via a USB cable.
